The debut of the Mustang Mach-E, which is Ford’s first fully electric car, has allowed to enter to the list of electric vehicle manufacturers. The completely new and unique car in the Ford stable is a fully electric medium-sized SUV, which is expected to be in production by the end of 2020. This year we will also see a new electric CrossOver – Model Y from Tesla.

Not only Tesla is desirable

Ford Mustang Mach-E was one of the most controversial and awaited premieres at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2019. After the presentation of the vehicle, opinions were divided: some fans got the car as a modern, successful project, for some, unfortunately, it was an insult to the Mustang we have known so far.

Regardless of these opinions, the demand for this model was so huge that the First Edition sold out completely in 9 days from the opening of online registration.

Full battery range

Ford, like Tesla, has prepared vehicles with different battery capacities, which significantly affect the travel distance at full charge.

Ford Mustang Mach-E:

Mustang Mach-E
Select 230 miles (AWD 210 miles)
Premium 230 – 300 miles (AWD 210 – 270 miles)
First Edition 270 miles
California RT.1 Edition 300 miles
GT 250 miles

Tesla Model Y:

Long Range 315 miles
Performance 315 miles
Performance Upgrade 280 miles

Performance – Full power of electricity

For Ford it was a very big challenge because the entry threshold is very high. Electric vehicles should have better performance in terms of battery capacity and offer more and more power, especially after Tesla presented the Model 3, which in the most powerful version accelerates from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds!

Ford Mustang Mach-E:

0-60 mph Horsepower
Select about 6 seconds (RWD)
about 5 seconds (AWD)
255 hp
Premium about 6 seconds (RWD)
about 5 seconds (AWD)
255-282 hp (RWD)
255-332 hp (AWD)
First Edition about 5 seconds (AWD) 332 hp
California RT.1 Edition about 6 seconds (RWD) 282 hp
GT about 3 seconds (AWD) 459 hp

Tesla Model Y:

0-60 mph Maximum speed Horsepower
Long Range 4.8 seconds (AWD) 135 mph
Performance 3.5 seconds (AWD) 145 mph 450 hp
Performance Upgrade 3.5 seconds (AWD) 155 mph 450 hp

Style and Design

Opinions on the aesthetic side of the Mustang Mach-E are divided. An interesting information that Elon Musk mentioned is the fact that the Tesla Model Y is 75% based on the aforementioned Model 3 – external and internal construction. In addition, Model Y was built on the same floor panel, and uses other technologies of the older brother from Model X. As a result, the latest Model Y has the least innovation compared to previous versions.

Mustang Mach-E has definitely more sportiness and is one of the better-looking models in the class of electric urban SUVs.

Ford Mustang Mach-E will be offered in 7 different colors:

  1. Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  2. Star White Metallic Tri-Coat
  3. Infinite Blue Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
  4. Carbonized Gray
  5. Shadow Black
  6. Iconic Silver
  7. Space White

Tesla offers 5 colors to its clients:

  1. Pearl White Multi-Coat
  2. Solid Black
  3. Midnight Silver Metallic
  4. Deep Blue Metallic
  5. Red Multi-Coat

Price – prohibitive or not …?

Ford sold all models of First Edition for $ 59,900. For comparison, the cheapest version with Select rear-wheel drive costs $ 43,895, the Premium version $ 50,600, which makes the First Edition is the most expensive model. Does such a price difference result from the fact that people want to have another non-Tesla electric car that stands out with its appearance and badge?

Is this a good price compared to Tesla cars and other brands with electric vehicles? The Mustang Mach-E model is not an offer straight from the discount or a poorer version of the electric car of the 21st century – it is a fully competitive offer for Tesla, which will not differ from other manufacturers’ standards. Ford proves that thanks to advanced specifications and technology it can compete in gaining this market segment.
